Bands Vs Some Wholesome Summer Activities

Well, no one can say that Turpentine isn’t a gal of specific interests and aesthetics.

I want to mention: my online shop is back! I took it down leading up to VanCAF, but now it’s live again with some new stuff – including a limited number of the new hot pink riso comics. Yeah!

Honey in black! First time?

Um, no. She wore black just a couple of pages ago. Sorry.

FWIW, always a treat to read this lovely comic.

don’t you remember dark Honey?

Peter Lewerin on June 8, 2016 @ 4:50 am

My memory is very bad, unfortunately. That’s one reason I seldom post comments. Maybe I’ll take a tour through the archive some day.

My set:
Garbage fire
In the gutter
Nurse dress
Girlmonster
Lipstick mess/setlist?*

*a spontanious jam session that occurs whenever Turpentine can’t decide how to end a set

He Really Ain’t Good, But A Girl Needs A Man …five times in a row. While glaring menacingly at that certain someone.

…I’m sure she’ll get the message.

Girl talk with cats is usually just as good as girl talk with girls. True fact!

I found this site on Tumblr through the… postcards? or something?… of Honey and Turpentine crushing on each other. I started reading the comic because that kind of cute rivalmance is just my thing. I was really surprised and excited by the depth of the comic. New Pacific City’s thriving music scene and the emotional lives of the characters are so complex and authentic! I love how it’s been gradually developed throughout the story that the Sourballs are closer and have a deeper friendship than the Candy Hearts. Underneath the “Jem logic” of band fights it feels like these are people you could meet, and it’s easy to imagine them going to the grocery store or what they were like as kids and so on.

Came for the rockstar (future) girlfriends and silly band rivalries, stayed for the rockstar (future) girlfriends and silly band rivalries and the supporting cast and the many moments of sometimes-melancholy, sometimes-extra-cute emotional realism.

Aw, thank you so much! I’m so glad you found it, and that you like it. That’s always kind of been at the core of what I’m interested in doing with this comic – starting with this basic fun premise and whimsical tone and using it to explore a whole bunch of layers of these characters and their dynamics.
