I’m glad I already had a design for awkward teen Honey Hart.

I relate to Honey on a spiritual level here. Btw, I love that Turps had very different haircuts in the past (that short one looks great).
P.s: what is Honey zodiac sign? I’ve been wondering whats hers since we already know T’s a scorpio.

Kathleen on July 13, 2016 @ 12:34 am

I haven’t totally decided what Honey’s sign is! If it’s roughly summer in comic time right now, and the last page established that her birthday’s soon…I think there’s a case to be made for either Cancer, Leo, or Virgo?

OMG are those zits on teenage Honey Hart’s face?

Bjwwilcera on July 11, 2016 @ 7:46 am Reply

Turpentine deserves love. Those other girls just didn’t get it, that’s all

Oh god, Honey and her flashback hits way too close to home here. I kinda felt something get tight in my chest for a moment. High school was awful back then, the realization starting and the confusion along with just trying to pretend to be normal.

I’m could write a novelette, but I’ll keep it short to my heart going out to her.

Kathleen on July 13, 2016 @ 12:34 am

There’s a lot of Young Me in this page, for sure.

I love how her mind immediately goes to SCHOOL SPIRIT / this one is so magical

So if the names here are in order, is the bass player also named Jennifer?

John A Arkansawyer on July 11, 2016 @ 5:06 pm

Oh, wait: If that’s Hemlock or Fuschia, then we know why there aren’t any pictures of that version of the band in Turpentine’s scrapbook! I’m thinking Fuschia.

Kathleen on July 13, 2016 @ 12:05 am

That’s Strychnine – they’re all labeled here! http://bvbcomix.com/bandvsband/activity-page-4

Oh, thanks! I’d forgotten that page somehow. (My kid, who is also a fan, will be surprised to hear it.)

I am so excited for every younger (and older!!) lesbian who’s going to read this page and suddenly feel so validated. It’s such a lonely thing being a Girl Who Likes Girls But Probably Maybe Only In A Best Friends Way(???), a Girl Who Likes Guys Kinda Like In Theory Maybe(???), and to see it so plainly presented in fiction is very exciting to me! I really wish I’d had this comic as a teenager, but even now it still means so much. Thank you!

Kathleen on July 13, 2016 @ 12:35 am

I’m glad you think so – thanks!

Same. x10 to the infinite power.

Turps past love life always makes my heart sad.

Oh my GAAAAWWWWD, Turpentine’s a romantic! <333 😀

Greg Stolze on July 12, 2016 @ 7:17 am

Who was it that said “Every cynic is a disappointed romantic”?

Kathleen on July 13, 2016 @ 12:47 am

Yeah, there’s this part of her character that’s (sometimes secretly!) A Total Romantic – like, she has this negativity, but the flip side of the anger and destructiveness is that she BELIEVES IN ART AND PASSION AND HAVING STRONG FEELINGS ABOUT STUFF.

This page is so sweet! Its lovely to see how delicate turps really is on the inside, her and honey are so perfect for each other!

I feel way more invested in this comic now, because the girl i have had a crush on for ages recently asked me out and onigosh im just so happy all the time! Its silly that i want your fictional comic characters to feel the same way, but i do! I really hope they both realise they’re MADE for each other soon <3

All these folks talking about how they relate so much to young Honey, makes me feel bad I can’t relate on a personal level (straight dude, natch) but I totally sympathize. A lot of my friends have had similar experiences with realizing they were attracted to people, including one friend who thought she was Ace until she realized she very much wasn’t.

All that said, Hi! Just finished an archive binge today! Loving the comic, I’ll try to keep checking in.

Speaking of pasts, I’m curious to know more about Foxy and Cherry, have they has any past lovers? I know Foxy has had flings, but what about steady boyfriends and girlfriends?

Also, I’m curious about non music pop culture in this zany temporal mishmash world you’ve created. Like, what’s the last year where our history and theirs is alike, or was it ever the same?

When Honey was you all of middle school, lol

I love short haired turpentine! also oh dear I don’t think I was attracted to anyone until I turned twenty, but then all of a sudden I just… girls, you know?
