Honey Vs That Band Meeting

16 Comments on Honey Vs That Band Meeting

Well, heck – now I want to do like a dozen comics about how she imagines heaven, and how this concept fits into her mystical witch cosmology.

Oh no. OH nononononono. Are the Candy Hearts about to breakup? Oh man. Looks like the next exit is downtown Bummersville. :'(

Well that got ominous quickly.

I get Coco’s dysphoria, but Cherry seems to hold the most genuine animosity out of the cast towards the other band… and mainly on the basis that their different. I’m sure its purely coincidental that the token cisgendered heterosexual is a bit of a judgmental bitch (reminds me of my twin a bit, bet you anything she was popular in school… which makes her relationship with Honey interesting, as one would assume Honey didn’t fare nearly as well, and now Cherry has to stand in the shadow of that pink puddle duck). Besides Turps acting up and going a bit too far on occasion The Sourballs seem to be a bit sweeter. but I suppose that is part of the beautifully ironic duality of the story; the Candy Hearts, the maniacally bright and jovial group, are the ones who seem to suffer the most due to unresolved (or unaddressed) tensions behind their preppy facade. Apart from Zero he is one peachy keen, capital fella… as far as we know.
I’d hope we get to see Honey’s awkward high school years, like we got to see Turps. None of this obviously taking into account Honey’s obviously turbulent home life and childhood. Like what happened to Honey’s parents and has she been raised by her grandparents since she was a little girl (when her Gran said two ladies couldn’t get married)? are her grandparents still alive? How much has Honey lost?

best comic ever

I’d just been thinking along these lines, too. The Sourballs really do seem to be nicer people, on average, than the Candy Harts. Zero, I think he just loves to play the drums. If he ever speaks again, I’m hoping he just repeats exactly what he said in the interview. I think he just feels his gig is threatened. I do admire how Coco is restraining herself. And I am ONE HUNDRED PERCENT DOWN WITH HONEY’S VISION OF HEAVEN!

I’ll calm down now.

Honey was definitely an awkward kid/teen (see also: her talking about doing weird stuff like ham radio lessons), and I’m looking forward to showing more of that in the future (plus more details on her grandma/no parents situation)!

Someone described the Sour Balls on a TVtropes page as a misfit family who just happened to be a band. I think that really sums them up pretty well. I have the same thing in real life, a gaggle of friends that we joke about being a little family, a bunch of misfits who grew up with abuse, being outsiders because of orientation or race or other things too deep to get into.

But I get them. In my experience the broken and c racked tend to find others like them and bond in a way. We’re all a bit damaged in our own ways, That’s why I love the Sour Balls so much, because of that little reflection of real life i see in them. And not just because Foxy kind of reminds me of myself.

Okay, overly sentimental and too much human emotion showing. I need to go drink some widows tears and eat a few children’s hearts baked into a pie.

I think of them as that sort of misfit family, yeah!
Also: way back before the beginning, when I was designing these characters, I had a moment of thinking “but what if Arsenic is Turpentine’s brother”, but then immediately thought no, no way – their whole thing is that they’re like each other’s CHOSEN family.

In a kinder world than this vale of tears, that second panel is a wildly popular T-shirt, for which Kathleen gets fat residual checks.

Coco dreams wistfully of the day she gets to star in her own comic series…

Oh no, I had never even considered how the rest of the bands would take it if Turps and Honey got together! True love… but at what price?!

Greg Stolze on April 27, 2016 @ 7:21 am

I think Arsenic would be blasé, expecting it to last as long as one of his mayfly-style affairs. And I mean, having observed Turps’ previous amours? Domme would be nonplussed but curious. Foxy though… I bet she would tease the HELL out of HH.

On the other side, well, I think we’re seeing it. Zero the newlywed would probably offer his silent support for love conquering all, but the other two…?

Excuse me if this has come up before, but has the existence of a real-life band with the “Candy Hearts” name been mentioned here before?

I think someone else did bring this up (www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CIWlHMsF3g) Which makes me cringe, it sounds like teenie bopper mid 2000s pop punk.
I like to imagine the bvb Candy hearts as Something between Archies Band, Shakespear’s Sister and Strawberry switchblade. Thats the charm of this comic its up to you to imagine how it sounds

Oh my god, I just noticed the star-crossed couple from the club, sitting on the garden wall in the background! EEEEEEEEE!

Long delayed reply: Yeah, it’s definitely more “neat naming coincidence” than “great music discovery”.
