Foxy vs. Clothes!

^ The unofficial alternate title for a few pages in the archive.

…I remember actually doing some pretty serious thinking early on about what types of cartoon nudity get to be visible in this universe.

Mermaids with ink?!

HECK YES.

Kathleen on July 15, 2013 @ 7:13 pm

Mermaids with like old-school sailor tattoos is one of those things that just makes total “of course they would!” sense to me.

How do the mermaids get tattoos underwater without risking INFECTIONS

CM on July 15, 2013 @ 1:16 am

They come to the surface and have the tattoos done by sailors who set up their tools on a small boat. The mermaid stays up for an hour or two to let the wound start to heal, then trusts in the ocean’s strong saline solution to prevent any problems. I bet they heal better than humans, too.

Alternately: a multitasking octopus tattoos several mermaids at once, with skill beyond any human artist, and also has cute little tattoo sleeves on all its octo-arms.

Octopus. I’m going with octopus.

Wow, they are just one hot wet mess, and I love it.

That moment in the life of a comic artist where you must ask yourself: “What would this character look like totally bedraggled and drenched in water like a drowned rat?

But what was Reason #5? What was it? I NEED CLOSURE!

-G.

Was it “liquor and night swimming are not the winning combination they initially appear”? Or would that be better for Reason #1?

Kathleen on July 15, 2013 @ 7:57 pm

I feel like the four first ones probably covered practical core cautions like riptides, animal attacks, and moonlit liquor-fueled horseplay…and by the time you get to #5, it’s kind of gone off track into some stuff about always respecting the sea’s fearsome mystical power, and the lost city of Atlantis.

“Only the plus side, all that salt water we swallowed seems to have killed the tapeworms!” In my heart, I hope that Domme was sensible enough to avoid the truck-stop sushi. She has sensible glasses… stern, disciplined glasses…

I wonder if Turp had stayed under long enough, if she’d find the Queen of the Pacific Ocean.

And there was sort of a crummy drawing of a mermaid in Turpentine’s notebook. Maybe Shared Enthusiasm For The Idea Of Mermaids, to the point where it shows up in dreams, is one of the conversations these girls will eventually get to have.
