Zero is totally there too, by the way. He’s just…not on camera on this page.

(Also: if you’re in the Vancouver area, you should definitely stop by VanCAF next weekend.)

I’m sorry if we have covered this before, but roughly how old are these gals?

Kathleen on May 21, 2014 @ 12:01 am

I try to keep it a little bit vague because they don’t age in real time (even with the occasional mention of birthdays!)— but, basically, all these characters are in the early-mid 20s range. Domme is the oldest of the gang.

1. It seems as if Turp and Honey are actually advancing in their relationship somewhat in their slow awkward way. Nice.
2. If Turp and Honey was the name of a cocktail, what would the ingredients be? How about for the Atomic Domme?
3. Still always feel a little for the lovely Panda Girl whenever she shows a hint of longing for Honey.
4. This is a total comic geek question, but who are your influences? Many have noted your love of but your framing is equally awesome. Love the framing of the conversation and the facial expressions in the triptych line.
5. Love your comic, love your art, love you. Keep it up. You make an old comic guy happy.

Thank you!
Sorry for the delay, and I WILL answer this properly re: drink ingredients and my influences! I will! This is a placeholder for now — I’m so swamped this week, and I’ll be back when I have a moment to sit and think properly.

Aw Honey and Turpentine’s awkward yet adorable flirting is just too cute. I can’t handle it. Turpentine is so smooth. Gah I love it.

Fancy dresses, good wine…

It’s almost a daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate. :3

Wow, Honey has some skills with dressmaking. Very nice.

But aw, Turps, I’m a little disappointed in you. It’s extremely bad form to disparage the competition like that in public. You have more class than that!

Kathleen on May 25, 2014 @ 11:10 pm

Turpentine is nothin’ but class!

Real life Honey/Turpentine could maybe be played by Gwen Stefani circa 2000 (the Simple Kind of Life video with the red platform boots, pink hair- though the lyrics are way off) and Distillers era Brody Dalle (her voice especially). They actually shared a stage once too when they were on tour with Garbage.

Kathleen on May 28, 2014 @ 10:52 pm

Fun fact: Turpentine’s sorta-style-twin Ruthless has a face kinda based on a mix of Brody Dalle and Joan Jett.

…And I’d never considered it before, but pinkhair Gwen Stefani would make a pretty decent Honey Hart!

Or maybe the girl from the real life Candy Hearts (Bad Idea video) versus the upright bassist from Horrorpops (Miss Take) because they’re both candy-named bands at opposite ends of the punk spectrum.

Ruthless’s face is Joan Jett + Brody Dalle? Neat! I love behind-the-scenes facts about character inspirations/origins and art process.
