Band Vs. The Holidays

Just a couple of quick holiday-themed drawings. I actually have the next actual comic about 98% done — I’ll put it up on Monday when this whole Xmas train has passed.

Notes: re: this:

• Of all the supposedly-wholesome things that Honey Hart is into, she’s not actually into Jesus — but man, I think she’d be super into The Christmas Spirit.

• Pretty sure Damon took this job because he got fired from whatever his last one was.

Maybe Honey would celebrate Saturnalia?

I’m actually looking forward to delving more into her religious beliefs later, because it’s totally a thing I’ve put some thought into!

Also: every year I kind of want to have a Saturnalia party, and never do.

Like once, way near the beginning — and then I decided he’s a man of no words.

That angel looks like he should be at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show.

This is kind of like Christmas In My Neighbourhood, The Comic. Right after I posted this, I walked a couple of blocks to the liquor store and en route saw some coincidental gay bar posters featuring scantily clad angel dudes.

(1) It’d be so awesome if Honey WAS into Jesus, but had bizarre concepts of who Jesus was — like she thinks Jesus is like the guy who takes care of Santa’s reindeer during the rest of the year, and that he carries crosses to like, repair the barn where they live, and Christmas is the night where he and Santa exchange high fives as Santa and the reindeer leave on their mission — so like the holiday is named after him because it’s important NEVER TO FORGET THE LABORERS. And when people tell her actually objectionable things about Jesus, like the “everyone goes to HELL” etc stuff, she just REFUSES TO BELIEVE THEM because she has the real Jesus in her heart, the real Jesus who builds and maintains barns for animals.

(2) WHO DOESN’T LIKE BLOODY MARYS

1) I like this cosmology so much better than regular Jesus.
2) WHO, INDEED. I thought way too much about “ok, what’s a drink that someone might hate?”, and settled on the Mary / Caesar family because the whole tomato juice thing is not universally liked. And then, BONUS, I realized that these are both incidentally Bible Nativity Story characters.

Ha, that would be perfect. XD

And Jesus /was/ a carpenter… >>

Is that a sexified version of Jughead hitting on Damon in the last panel? Because if so, I approve.

Well, clearly that’s canonical in my mind NOW!

I’m not sure why “Happy Hanukkah, Zero!” cracks me up so much, but it totally does. I guess because it’s just so perfectly in sync with the well-intentioned-but-poorly-thought-out token Hanukkah inclusion in Christmas festivities that I rolled my cynical jewish eyes at all through elementary school, and thus seems perfect for Honey’s brand of holiday celebration.
