So, the most understated (arguably unstated, depending on your reading? I’m not exactly a neutral judge) bandcrush in the BVBverse suddenly becomes text. In song, because that’s how this world does things.

OMG Coco is gorgeous under the panda hat! (and I had no idea that she had a crush on Honey).

And just like Honey talks to her cat, Coco talks to her lizard! They do have a lot in common, but I guess opposite attracts after all…
(and oh boy, having a crush/relationship with a bandmate usually ends up with lost of drama… that’s a dangerous territory).

Oh no! Oh, poor sweet Coco. Can, um, can I make up some cutie indy rocker who happens by a dance one night because wants to see a good show and her band is one of those on again/off again groups? And then she and Coco end up chatting because Coco’s giving her some bass tips even though the indy rocker is more about the piano? And, like, phone numbers are exchanged?

Maybe?

Oh my lord, the plot thickens! This totally puts how strange their crushes are into perspective. Also, Coco is really taking this rather well. Really shows how cool she is, on many levels.

I am on the edge of my seat… must create time machine next week can’t come fast enough!

This said, everything about this is great — like it feels really, really shocking to see Coco without the hat, which sums up everything else about this pretty much

WAIT! Is this actually the first appearance of out lesbianism in this comic?? We’ve had Arsenic strutting his pansexual stuff all along but I think no self-aware dykes yet! Hooray! This makes it make much more sense the way Coco sticks with Honey despite not having quite the same rigidly square morality system. I love the way this world just gets deeper and more complex while staying completely internally consistent.

I think it IS a first, unless you count Foxy hitting on Honey! About time, I think.

I tend to think of it like Honey is super repressed and unsure of herself, but Turpentine is basically a self-aware dyke in her own brain…she just has this ultra-strong “pfft, I DON’T NEED ANYONE, and no one is entitled to know what my deal is” shield against 99.9% of the world, and is not ready to admit that it’s her goody-goody nominal enemy that she has a particular thing for.

I think I have a crush on Coco now.

I’m also amused that Honey sang her crush song while wearing gloves that look like something you’d find in Turpentine’s dressing room.

My god, her eyes! So pretty. I think Coco has always been one of my faves, both for personality and style, but now I’m definately crushing.

Kudos for taking my breath away not once, but twice with this comic. Coco, at last we meet.

Wow, a lotta love for Hatless Coco! Glad you liked this one, all – I was actually worried about making it too angsty (which I don’t want too much in the tone of BVB, and she’s a really mellow character), and I rewrote it several times while I was working on it.

It’s sweet angst. It’s a bit of forlorn, lost love, but without dropping into the pit of despair. Enough to tug on the heartstrings, but there’s still hope available to poor Coco!

I KNOW, right? It’s this thing that gets mentioned way in the beginning, and then gets more and more difficult to imagine.

I’ve got plans to shed more light on both Coco and her former band, and Honey and her former…totally doomed attempt at a relationship with this one guy.

Other notable things that page contained: the only dialogue ever uttered by Zero, and the logic behind “Coco” as a nickname: she’s Courtney Cordova.

And I am digging her eyebrows for some reason. I’m weird, sorry.

It’s like that scene in the movie where the shy librarian takes off her glasses and suddenly she’s smolderingly attractive. Only instead of glasses, it’s a goofy hat that hid the top half of her face and distorted the shape of her head.
