There’s always a delay between getting these mail questions and choosing one to draw — so, June, if you’re still out there however many months later, thank you!
I like how this one turned out. It always sucks to finish a page later than I mean to, but I’m glad I took a little extra time here to get a few details how I wanted.
So, sorry that this one’s so late — this mostly happened because I got sick this week. I’m going to say that we’re back on an Every Monday schedule now, and this one may just count for the upcoming Monday the 12th (and maybe I’ll post a bonus drawing or something on my blog on Monday to make up for it).
I had quite the debate with myself over whether “butt holes” was allowed to get past the ridiculously, deliberately low swear barrier I’ve set for these comics. I decided yes because it’s so juvenile, like something a five year old would say, and the context is so silly.
It’s been ages, but it’s time to do another mailbag comic (and one that’s gonna span two pages)! Kat, if you’re out there, thanks for this prompt. Foxy speaks the truth here: Domme has indeed gotten the most mail of all the characters. I thought it was time to let her answer one (and then promptly have the comic swerve off in another direction. A costume direction.)
This has been a bit of a lousy week for me — so, I think I want to take a moment here to appreciate some goodness:
The brilliant Jeanne Thornton is one of my favorite human beings, and is part of the collective that puts out the ROCKSALT alt-comics paper that my stuff has been appearing in far from home — my valentines are in the latest issue. She’s also the cartoonist who I would declare to have custody of the BVB universe if I died or something, for whatever that’s worth.
Justin Pierce, the mad genius behind The Non-Adventures of Wonderella, is one of the smartest and funniest people I know — and we’ve known each other over ten years now. Our overall aesthetics and sensibilities are so different, but whenever we have conversations about comix (or whatever else) they’re great — and friend, you are appreciated.
Finishing off this roundup adorably (and I’d link to these people if they had links!): Sarah has done some more awesome BVB pixel art (heeee! Lookit that Turpentine!), and Lillie made a Honey Hart My Little Pony!
Finally, FINALLY, new comics!
Thank you, Courtenay, for playing the Send Mail To Fictional Characters game! There are several other questions in my inbox that are completely great and will have their turn…but this one was clearly irresistable.
Voila: a mail comic! So, this whole thing has been really fun — I’ve got a couple more letters that I really like that are waiting in the wings for later, and there’s always room for more. This’ll be a Sometimes Thing.
I kind of like the idea that gimmicky ones like this are not necessarily inconsequential throwaways — like, somehow this one has a temporary moment of self-awareness and emotional vulnerability beyond anything she’s shown before. It also has crazy eyes, and massive legwarmers, and cake destruction.
Thanks, anonymous letter-writer! ♥♥♥
