Ok — here comes a better accompanying post for this one. I just put up a placeholder late last night due to being undead-tired.Things of note:
Something cool and unexpected happened in the comment thread for the last page, in case you missed it: a reader named Trisha made a video tutorial for doing Venus Destructo eye makeup! Makes me want to try it, too — if I do, I’ll post a picture.
I think I’ve mentioned before that I grew to really like Stacey as a minor character — she’s like this high-spirited underdog with questionable judgement — so, here’s her moment to Be The Hero. Ya did good, Stace.
Bonus trivia, which I’m sure anyone local has already noticed: I have a little theme going on where I like to use streets in Vancouver as BVB characters’ last names. It’s not universal, just a few of them…I’ve already used Hastings, Davie, Cordova, and Alberni, and have several others that I like the sound of picked out for future use. It’s partly the fun of a theme, partly out of city-love, and partly just thinking that it’s a great name-set.
So, this one won’t go down in history as one of my favorite pages ever, due to its being quite text-heavy and mostly just doing some necessary inbetweeny work tying a few things up as this little episode approaches its end. There are a couple of things in it that I really ended up liking, though.
Aw, Soda! You’re kind of a deeply unstable and problematic person. That’s one of the cores of this, I think — Honey has her own secret inner neuroses, but her Sunshine & Goodness persona is also really genuine…and her mania for it attracts this person who’s superficially similar in some ways but has problems tenfold.
Venus is doing some hosting duties for this event, so she’s got an interest in having it not totally descend into fisticuffs. Ian may also still be hanging out with the Sourballs, but I already had like a million and a half characters to draw here.
“I need some clothes, STAT! You guys have anything lying around the fort?”
Sorry this one’s late, guys! I’m gonna make an effort to get my schedule back on track. Side note: I’ve really been having fun doing this longer-form story, but I’m also dying to get back to doing some shorter bits and one-off pages! In general, I do like how BVB is kind of a mix where sometimes pages stand alone and sometimes there are little plots like a cartoon episode. This one’s almost done, and it’s approaching 20 pages, which is probably the longer end of an episodey plot around here.
And they weren’t even trying to be ghosts — at least not in the Scooby Doo “chase people around while wearing a monster mask so they’ll think the building’s haunted” sense. They may, however, have realized at some point that they were contributing to ghost rumors, and found that pretty funny.
ps: Sorry that this one’s so late!
You all remember these two?
Everyone who predicted that we were going to see some rockstar ghosts is…sort of right, with the ambiguity of our hero being in a compromised mental state.
I shouldn’t linger too long writing too much more about this right now — I have guests at my place and I’m being rude!
