Buyin’ Records Vs. Financial Limitations

This seems like a good time to link back to this chart I made last year about the setting of Band Vs. Band. In brief, if you don’t feel like clicking: it’s set in the present, not the past…but in a stylized alternate world where certain technology just didn’t advance. Physical format music is all records and tapes — no CDs, no computer stuff.

Also, just in case: did you miss the last page, which came out pretty late in the week (my fault)?

Band Vs. Band Grab Bag!

I realllly like multiple small comics on a page as a format.

Other thoughts on this one:

• One of my favorite things about writing Honey has always been that, while her cheerfulness is totally genuine, she’s also got this layer of… troubled melancholy…just barely beneath the surface.

• Teen Turpentine: obviously, I’ve been thinking I wanna draw this I wanna draw this since the “you spent your adolescence getting detentions and vandalizing desks” line two pages ago! I’d say their age here is around 14. It’s within the same year that Arsenic got forcibly sent to an awful church summer camp, immediately made eye contact with someone aesthetically similar who clearly didn’t wanna be there either, and then First Boyfriend Summer Romance and he’s totally swept away with Feelings. And, back home, Turpentine’s kind of at loose ends without her usual pal, and vandalizes a LOT of stuff. A lot.

a.k.a.: I didn’t go to grad school, but I have spent a heck of a lot of time in a university setting.

a.k.a.: Why yes, I WAS aware that the job Arsenic was doing at the music store typically requires actual specific training beyond just being in love with guitars.

a.k.a.: guess THIS ONE’S FOR YOU, all y’all who’ve told me Atomic Domme is yer favorite character in this series

1. Woo! I will never get tired of these activity-style pages.

2. Hey, by the way: did you miss the last comic page? It went up pretty late in the week.

3. Related, since I’m apparently a real paper-toy fan: one of the items from the Kickstarter was PAPER BAND SETS, and I think they’re pretty sweet if I do say so myself— all the bandmates in Band Mode with their instruments, and they come perforated so you don’t have to mess with scissors. I’m still finalizing getting those printed (so, if you’re getting this, it hasn’t shipped yet!), but I’ll take pictures of them when I’ve got them.

4. I would hope no one too young to handle scissors is reading these comics — but hey, if so, I suppose anything inappropriate would fly right over their heads.
